Innovation Catalyst Grant Fellows Showcase Recap

General

Last week at Platform Calgary, Innovate Calgary had the privilege to collaborate on the Innovation Catalyst Grant Fellows Showcase, bringing together researchers, innovators, and community members from across Alberta to celebrate emerging ideas and entrepreneurial innovation.

The event welcomed cohorts from Calgary, Edmonton, and Lethbridge to showcase their ventures and engage with other members of the program. With over 150 attendees, 29 Innovation Catalyst Grant teams, and 12 companies exhibiting their technologies, the showcase highlighted the diversity of innovation within the Alberta ecosystem and helped spark conversations between founders.

Opening remarks were made by Hilary Faulkner, Assistant Deputy Minister of Innovation, Privacy and Stewardship in Alberta Technology and Innovation, followed by a keynote from Craig Elias, Technology Development Advisor at Alberta Innovates, who shared practical advice on innovation and entrepreneurship.

In the evening, there was a panel on the Innovation Catalyst Grant experience with Greg McGillis, Founder & CEO of Brain Care Technologies, Jordan Smith, Co-founder & CEO at Quantized Technologies, Remy Samson, Co-founder & CEO at Elementiam Materials and Manufacturing, and Luc Roberts an Entrepreneurial Strategist at the University of Lethbridge, who moderated the conversation.

The showcase marked an important milestone in bringing together cohorts from across Alberta into one space, creating opportunities for innovators to share their ventures, and strengthen connections within the province’s innovation community.
